Since we got back home from tour and throughout the summer, we will work hard on all the material for our upcoming full-length album. We will again team up with producer Carlos Sepulveda (NO HAWAII, JOE BARESI, PSYCORE), but also with legendary producer Lennart Östlund from Polar Studios (LED ZEPPELIN etc) in July for the live recording and production of our forthcoming album. Get stoked!

We are back from our 10 day tour through Denmark, Germany and Poland. It was a great tour with a lot of amazing shows and it was very nice to meet all our old friends, as well as making some new great ones. We are truly grateful for all the warmth, kindness and support we have been treated with during the tour and we wish to thank you all for that. It means the world to us. You know who you are.

Also, a huge thanks to David Flood (Monachus) for filling out for Markus on this tour. You saved us all and did an amazing job. And to Leo, our sound engineer, thanks for bringing out the best of us every night.

Photos and videos from the tour will eventually appear on this website, so hold tight.

We also have some bad news. We had two more shows booked before the summer, one at Misplaced Fest in Karlstad, Sweden and the other at Härden in Gothenburg, Sweden. Since Misplaced Fest has been canceled by the organizers, we felt that we should focus on getting all the songs for the upcoming album done instead, so we are cancelling the show in Gothenburg as well. But we will be working on some new live dates as soon as possible for the fall.

Our top priority right now is to get everything done before it’s time to hit the studio in July. So no more live shows for a while.

As I’m writing this the tour is just a dozen hours away and the excitment and eager to head out is peaking. Last night we had our last band practice before the tour starts and everything is feeling great. The set is tight and is a perfet mix of old and new songs. Unfortunately Martin had to stay home and rest instead, since he wasn’t feeling to well. Pre tour nerves? Who knows, but he wanted to rest so that he would feel better in time for the tour.

The days just before a tour is always the worst days. It feels like time stand still and the restlessness is unbearable. Quite similar to the feeling I used to have as a kid the days before Christmas. Now, all that is left is to pack my bag and gather all my shit and hopefully get a good night sleep.

We will bring new t-shirts on this tour, as well as the old ones (there are a few of them left), patches, backpatches, cool tote bags and of course the 7″ vinyl. So bring your savings and support a band on tour.

During the tour, we will post new blog posts as often as we can. So you’ll be able to follow us through Denmark, Germany and Poland via your computer. We are stoked to play all these great shows and meet a lot of old and new friends on the road. Go!

It looks really good and we can’t wait to hit the road. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, Markus will sadly sit this one out. It’s extremely unfortunate and he will be missed tremendously on this tour. As Markus replacement we have recruited our friend David Flood (Monachus) to shoulder the responsibility as our drummer on this tour.
Anyway, we are very eager to head out on this tour.

Of course we couldn’t say no, so we teamed up with our friends in Walk Through Fire and the interview was conducted between Sonny Stark of Age of Woe and Ufuk Demir of Walk Through Fire.
Today, part one of this interview – where Sonny answer questions from Ufuk – has been published online over at CVLT Nation’s website. Tomorrow you can read the second part of the interview, where Ufuk will answer questions from Sonny, so be sure to check that out as well.
As if that wasn’t enough, Age of Woe will also be featured in the Sonic Cathedrals mixtape series that will be launched soon. We’ll keep you posted on that!

2011 was a great year in many ways for Age of Woe. We recorded and released our debut 7″ EP in September, and digitally through Pivotal Rockordings in December, which received a lot of positive reactions and great reviews all around.

To promote the release, we decided to live stream a short set we played at the Belly of the Whale studio in Gothenburg. It was a very cool event and nothing any of us had ever done before. It turned out to be more successful than we’d ever thought it could be. Hopefully we will be able to release this live recording in some way during 2012.

We also played a lot of cool shows during the year, including a mini-tour in Germany. We ended the year by playing at the Scorched Tundra Festival at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg together with As You Drown, Zombiekrig, Marionette and Eldrimner. It was a great night and a lot of people attended this newborn festival.

During the second part of 2011 we started to work on the next big project, which will be our first full length album. It culminated in a trip to a cottage in the woods, where we isolated ourselves for a week to work more intensely on the album. The recording of this album are planned for April/May, and so far it looks very promising.

We know that this year will be even more productive and intense for Age of Woe. For starters, we have a European tour coming up in April and even more shows to be confirmed during the first part of 2012. We are also working on some other cool stuff that we hope can be revealed soon, so stay alert and keep your eyes open.

It’s new years eve, and we are all back in Gothenburg again after spending the past week in a cottage to work on our upcoming album. It has been wonderful time and the stress-releasing environment was perfect for us to focus on Age of Woe related stuff.

Although, since the cottage is located out in the countryside, we had a hard time posting new blog posts on a daily basis to let you know how we were doing. Hence this recap post.

We went to the cottage with a few new songs and a lot of riffs and ideas in the bag, so we had a lot to work on and the main goal with this expedition was to get a clear picture of what the album would sound like, what direction to take and also to record pre-prods of all the songs. As most of the times, things tend to go quite fast once we have started to work and this was no exception. We rarely think about what kind of song we want to write or how we want the structures to be. It kind of comes naturally, as if the songs have their own life force. It has more or less become the Age of Woe way of writing songs – everything starts with a riff.

In the end we recorded 6 tracks and some other riffs and ideas, so we have come a long way towards completing the writing process for this album. Of course we can’t know for sure if all the songs we made so far will make it on the album, but at the moment they all feel very solid. Anyway, it will be a very heavy, groovy and evil album. That’s for sure.

On Wednesday, December 28th, we went back to Gothenburg to play the Scorched Tundra Festival at Sticky Fingers together with As You Drown, Marionette, Zombiekrig and Eldrimner. It was a wicked night and there were a lot of people attending this show.
You can watch some photos of the show here:
